As we welcome the month of August, we sadly usher in the close of the summer season. But not to worry - we still have a month left and if you’re like us, we plan to pack in as many summer activities as possible before the fall. So here is SUGO’s list of the Top 5 Ways to Make the Most of the End of Summer!
#1 Last Minute Trips - If you want to squeeze in one final weekend getaway before the end of summer, it’s not too late! Check out a helpful travel website like Skyscanner to compare affordable last minute airfare, hotels and car rentals for that end of summer trip you’ve been waiting for.
If you find yourself being called to a weekend trip to San Diego, California, a stay at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines is highly recommended. Located right off the shores of La Jolla and adjacent to the Torrey Pines Golf Course, notable for annually hosting the PGA Tour, your stay is bound to be filled with exciting adventures and breathtaking views. With much to do, you can enjoy a day at the pool, early morning yoga in the garden, or play a round of golf with your friends. For the more daring adventurer, check out kayaking in La Jolla Cove nearby or paragliding at the Torrey Pines Gliderport. From one traveler to another, even if you aren’t daring enough to paraglide, the sunset at the Torrey Pines Gliderport is certainly not one to be missed!
For our Canadian contingent, we suggest checking out The Dover George for your answer to that call. Located less than two blocks from one of Canada’s most picturesque beaches and just one block from Main Street in Port Dover, Ontario, The Dover George is Norfolk County’s first and only luxury boutique hotel, perfect for a weekend summer getaway. Combining the personal touches of a bed and breakfast with the attention to detail and refinement of the finest boutique hotels, the intimate atmosphere of The Dover George gives you the opportunity to escape the busy city without traveling too far from the Greater Toronto Area.
#2 Connect with Mother Nature - While the weather is still warm and sunny, make sure to fit in some time to connect with Mother Nature! Take an outdoor walk, find a nearby trail, or maybe even grab a few sandwiches and have a picnic in a nearby park. Though we love the fall season, we recommend taking advantage of that warm summertime glow before the weather gets chilly and it's time to bundle up.
#3 Bottomless Brunch - Grab the gals for a weekend bottomless cocktail brunch! One of our favorite places to visit is Della Terra Restaurant located in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles, California.
Della Terra has an exciting menu filled with authentic and organic Italian cuisine for lunch and dinner, seven days a week. On weekends, check out their menu of sweet and savory brunch options alongside the bottomless champagne cocktails including Mimosas, Bellini, Aperol Spritz, every Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 3pm.
#4 Attend an Outdoor Movie - Ushering in the month of August means those warm summer nights are coming to a close. So why not take advantage of them with a fun outdoor movie? Grab a picnic blanket with a few snacks and go catch a fun summer movie with your friends! Or if you're feeling extra creative, try the do-it-yourself approach and hang up a sheet with a projector in the backyard for the family to enjoy together.
#5 Backyard Barbeque - Fire up the grill and invite the friends and family over for an end-of-summer backyard barbeque! Whether you’re new to grilling or a master of the grill, Mazola has you covered with delightful new dishes to share with your guests. Try a Marinated Grilled Salmon with Tarragon Butter or maybe the Grilled Curried Cauliflower Steaks with Spiced Lentils and Spinach. Any of these recipes are a sure way to wow your guests and end the summer season with a bang!
Here at SUGO, whether you take any of our suggestions or not, we hope you have a very safe and joyful end of summer, packed with lots of fun activities with your friends and family!
