Whether it’s burgers, steak, skewers, vegetables, or even fruit, It’s hard not to love a dish that’s been grilled on the BBQ. But barbequing can be intimidating, and when’s the last time someone actually taught you how to cook a proper steak on the grill?
Fear not, we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know to be a grilling master in Grilling 101.
Understand Your Grill
When you’re choosing a BBQ the options are endless, which is great, but can also be intimidating. BBQs vary in size, shape, color, and most importantly style of cooking. The two most common grills on the market, and great ones to start with, are gas and charcoal.
Gas Grills: Gas grills are popular for many reasons: They heat up fast, it’s easy to control the temperature, and they require minimal cleanup. These grills can be a little pricey, but they will last for many years if you take good care of them.
Charcoal Grills: These grills are often smaller in size, but create a taste that’s hard to replicate. The charcoal adds a delicious smoky flavor to whatever it is you’re cooking. In addition, charcoal grills are some of the most affordable on the market and they’re relatively portable. A downside for novice grillers is that coals take a long time to heat up and there are no temperature control knobs. It takes some trial and error, but you’ll be able to find your perfect grill temperature in no time.
Get the Right Tools

Another importation preparation step is to plan the order of your dishes on the grill. Some foods need to be cooked at a high temperature, while others require something much lower so they don’t burn. A great strategy is to cook what needs to be at the highest temperature first, then gradually lower the heat for the following ingredients.
